EVE (Embedded Video Engine) is a family of graphics controller chips from FTDI – the FT8xx series, e.g. FT812 and FT813 – designed to simplify driving graphical displays, touch panels and audio in embedded devices. A single EVE chip integrates an image generator, a touch interface and a sound generator, eliminating the need for an external graphics processor or operating system.
The graphical user interface is built from a simple command list – for example buttons, sliders, progress bars, text or animations – while a microcontroller communicates with the controller via SPI, QSPI or I²C. This lowers hardware requirements and accelerates development. FT8xx controllers drive LCD-TFT displays with an RGB interface (e.g. 18-bit RGB) at resolutions up to 800×480 pixels, and some models, such as the FT813, also offer capacitive touch support and 24-bit color.
EVE is used in machine control panels, HMI panels, embedded systems, industrial automation, medical equipment, building automation, infotainment systems and consumer electronics – wherever quick integration, low power consumption and a cost-effective, modern graphical interface are desired.
