IEC 61000 is a series of international standards that specify electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements and test methods for electrical and electronic equipment. Its European counterpart, EN 61000, is often required for CE marking of industrial, medical and consumer devices.
The series addresses two main issues: immunity to disturbances (EMS) – such as electrostatic discharge, surges and conducted or radiated interference – and the limitation of interference emissions (EMI) into the environment. It includes many test procedures, for example ESD immunity (IEC 61000-4-2), RF immunity (IEC 61000-4-3) and EFT/burst immunity (IEC 61000-4-4).
