We’ve extended our offer with Cholesteric Bistable LCDs (also known as BCD – Bistable Cholesteric Display). This kind of display has two stable states, which allows to display the image without consuming any energy. The power is needed only to change one state into another, i.e. like in e-paper displays, to change or refresh the displayed content.
In addition, BCD displays (also, like e-paper) do not have a built-in backlight, which increases their energy efficiency. Noteworthy are also wide viewing angles (80° in each direction) and a wide range of operating temperatures (-20 ~ 70°C), which is often an obstacle when using e-paper displays (0 ~ 50°C range). The lower customization costs and significantly lower price than for e-paper displays also speaks of using BCD. Below we present one of the displays available in our offer.

Color | Resolution | Controller IC | Interface | Viewing direction | Module size | Active area | Operating temp. | Storage temp. |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Blue and White | 128×64 | SSD1603 | 4-wires Serial Interface | Full Viewing | 65.0 x 43.4 x 1.4 | 55.025 x 27.505 | -20 ~ 70°C | -30 ~ 80°C |
Applications that are ideal for cholesteric displays are: price labels, indicators, timetables. Any project in which energy saving is important, and the content displayed does not need to be frequently refreshed or changed will be appropriate.
