Winstar has launched several variants of Smart Display series solutions. One of them is Smart Displays with UART interface – these are five models with sizes of 3.5-, 4.3-, 5.0-, 7.0-, and 10.1-inches. All feature brightness of 400 cd/m2 and full viewing angles – 80°/80°/80°/80° or 85°/85°/85°/85°*. They can be operated in a wide temperature range: from -20 to +70 or from -30 to +80°C*. In addition, they are integrated with a capacitive touch panel.

UART interface – definition, principle of operation
UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter) is a communication interface for exchanging data asynchronously between devices using simple signal lines. This interface uses two main lines: TXD (Transmit Data) – for sending data and RXD (Receive Data) – for receiving data. In addition, there may be control lines, such as RTS (Request to Send) or CTS (Clear to Send).
The key features of UART interface are:
- asynchronicity – the interface does not require a dedicated clock signal for synchronization – devices synchronize based on a fixed baud rate;
- point-to-point connections – this interface is typically used for communication between two devices, such as a microcontroller and a computer;
- full-duplex – this interface can simultaneously send and receive data using two transmission lines.
Designing user interfaces by drag-and-drop
Each module in the Smart Display series is equipped with an STM32-series processor from STMicroelectronics. It allows them to be developed using this company’s tools, such as TouchGFX.
Winstar also provides user interface design tool, that is the GUI Builder. Its strengths are:
- real-time simulation – users can immediately test their designs, eliminating the need for programming;
- design without writing code – an intuitive drag-and-drop interface makes creating user interfaces quick and easy, even for those without programming experience;
- plenty of widgets – the platform allows customization of various widgets, such as buttons, sliders, indicators, or keyboards, tailored to various applications.
