As industrial digitalization continues to advance, modern human-machine interfaces are becoming increasingly important. A properly selected display affects not only operator ergonomics, but also the reliability of the entire device. The G121ICE-L02 model from Innolux combines the parameters expected from an industrial-grade panel with high readability, offering WXGA resolution (1280 × 800 px), wide viewing angles thanks to AAS technology, and an integrated LED driver.
WXGA resolution for advanced user interfaces
For a long time, industrial devices mainly used 12-inch panels with SVGA (800 × 600 px) or XGA (1024 × 768 px) resolution. These were sufficient for simple operator screens, basic menu views or single-process visualizations. However, as interfaces become more complex, their limited workspace is increasingly noticeable.
The G121ICE-L02 offers 1280 × 800 px (WXGA) resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio, making better use of the 12.1-inch screen area. The higher pixel count makes it easier to display process data, system messages, control elements and basic visualizations at the same time, without making the interface overly dense. This is particularly important in applications where the operator needs to quickly read several types of information at once.
With a pixel density of around 124 PPI, the panel also provides sharper rendering of text, icons, graphic outlines and smaller interface elements. As a result, detailed information remains easy to read, which is especially important in applications that require precision. Improved data readability can help reduce the risk of misinterpreting information and make everyday operation more comfortable for the user.
AAS technology – wide and symmetric viewing angles
The display panel is based on AAS (Azimuthal Anchoring Switch) technology – Innolux’s IPS-type technology. This solution provides wide, symmetrical viewing angles of 89°/89°/89°/89°. As a result, the image remains readable even when the screen is viewed from different directions, not only from a central position.
Wide viewing angles are important in applications where the operator is not always directly in front of the panel – for example, in control cabinets installed at different heights, operator panels used from multiple positions, or mobile devices.
Brightness, contrast and color reproduction
The G121ICE-L02 offers a brightness of 400 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1000:1, providing a clear image in typical indoor operating conditions – for example, in production halls, logistics centers, warehouses, points of sale or public facilities. Readability is further supported by an Anti-Glare surface, which reduces light reflections and improves viewing comfort.
The panel supports 262K colors (6-bit) or 16.7M colors (8-bit), allowing content to be presented in a clear and structured way. This makes the panel well suited for HMI applications, where image parameters are important, but so are image stability, readability and viewing comfort during everyday operation.
LED backlight with PWM dimming
The model is equipped with an integrated LED backlight driver, which enables brightness control using a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal. In practice, this means that the backlight brightness is adjusted by changing the duty cycle of the signal – at full PWM drive, the backlight operates at maximum brightness.
The module uses an LED backlight with a lifetime specified at 30,000 hours. This value refers to the estimated operating time at an ambient temperature of 25°C and full PWM drive, after which the backlight brightness decreases to 50% of its initial value.
Mechanical aspects
The G121ICE-L02 has been designed for efficient integration into industrial devices. Its active display area measures 261.12 × 163.2 mm, while the overall module dimensions are approximately 278 × 184 × 10 mm. This allows the 12.1-inch diagonal to be used effectively while maintaining a relatively compact form factor.
The typical panel weight is around 470 g, making it easier to account for the module in the mechanical design of the device – both in terms of structural load and the selection of mounting elements.
Interface
Communication with the G121ICE-L02 module is handled via a 30-pin LVDS interface in a 1-channel, 6/8-bit configuration. This solution is widely used in industrial systems, especially where stable image transmission between the control electronics and the TFT panel is required.
Support for 6- or 8-bit mode allows the data transmission format to be matched to the capabilities of the controller and the required color depth.
