Improving visibility in tactile outdoor applications

More than 10 years ago, AMT introduced low-reflective (LR) touch solutions in response to market needs at the time. With a wealth of experience and increasingly advanced technologies, AMT is adapting its capacitive touch panel offerings to meet growing market demands and end-user application expectations with the introduction of a family of reduced-reflectivity panels.

For outdoor applications using TFT LCD displays, the readability of the displayed information in bright sunlight is crucial. Currently, when constructing PCAP touch panels, one of the standard structures is used, such as Glass-Film, Glass-Glass, etc.). However, none of these solutions are able to reduce the value of the ratio to 1.5%.

AMT LR PCAP touch panels use a two-layer glass construction. The cover is a glass panel combined with anti-reflective (AR) coating. It can also be decorative glass. The sensor has a DITO (Double-sided Indium Tin Oxide) structure.

The polarizer layer helps achieve a reflectance of 1.5% (+/- 0.5%). The described panels have a light transmission rate of 85% (+/- 3%). They are available in sizes from 3.5 dl 21.5 inches. This solution significantly reduces the effect of glare and makes the readability of LCD displays significantly better.

The design of the AMT LR PCAP touch panel differs from that of the standard PCAP, but remains compatible with the PenMount PCAP family of controllers.
