1. WHAT ARE COOKIES AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?
Cookies are text files that are saved on your device and used by the server to recognize this device upon reconnection. They are downloaded each time you “enter” and “exit” our site. Cookies are not used to determine your identity, but only that of your device – among other things, so that after recognizing the browser you use, the displayed image is best adapted to the technical capabilities of the equipment, e.g., its resolution or version. Cookies are most often used in the case of counters, surveys, online stores, websites requiring login, advertisements, and for monitoring visitor activity. Cookies also allow, among other things, to remember your interests and to adapt websites to them in terms of the content displayed and the matching of advertisements. These files are used by practically all websites operating on the Internet – search engines, news sites, blogs, online stores, government websites, etc. Our site also uses them.
2. WHAT DO COOKIES DO?
Generally, they operate on the following principles:
- they identify the data of the computer and browser used to view websites – allowing, for example, to find out if a given computer has already visited the site,
- data obtained from “cookies” are in no way combined with the personal data of users obtained, for example, during registration on websites,
- they are not harmful to you or your computers or smartphones – they do not affect how they operate,
- they do not cause configuration changes in end devices, nor in the software installed on these devices,
- the default parameters of “cookies” allow the information contained in them to be read only by the server that created them,
- based on your behavior on the websites you visit, they transmit information to the servers, thanks to which the displayed page is better tailored to your individual preferences.
3. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF COOKIES?
The following types of cookies exist:
- “Session cookies” – are temporary files stored in the browser’s memory until the end of its session. These files are mandatory for some applications or their functionalities to work correctly. After closing the browser, they should be automatically deleted from the device on which you were browsing the site,
- “Persistent cookies” – make it easier to use frequently visited sites. These files are stored in the appropriate folder for a longer period, which you can adjust in the settings of the browser you use. Each time you visit the site, data from these cookies is transferred to the server. This type of cookie is sometimes called “tracking cookies”,
- “Third-party cookies” – are files that usually come from ad servers, search servers, etc., that cooperate with the owner of a given site. Thanks to them, the displayed advertisements are tailored to your interests and habits, which in return often allows for the free use of part of the service’s content. They are also used to count “clicks” on ads, user preferences, etc.
4. DO YOU HAVE TO CONSENT TO OUR USE OF COOKIES?
Remember that you have the ability to manage “cookies” yourself. This is enabled, for example, by the web browsers you use (usually, the mechanism is enabled by default). In the most popular browsers, you have the option to:
- accept the handling of “cookies,” which will allow you to fully use the options offered by websites,
- manage cookies at the level of individual sites you choose,
- specify settings for different types of “cookies,” for example, accepting persistent files as session files, etc.,
- block or delete cookies. Information on how to enable and disable cookies in the most popular browsers can be found in their settings options. Leaving your browser settings unchanged means you consent to our use of cookies. Blocking them or disabling support for some of their types may, however, prevent you from using the full functionality of the site or interfere with its correct functioning.
5. WHAT DO WE USE COOKIES FOR?
