In this article, we describe the features of several ways of protecting displays. They do not only preserve the electronic device but also act in users’ favor.

1. Gorilla Glass
Gorilla Glass is a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate glass developed by Corning, an American company based in Corning (NY). Its main asset is resistance to mechanical damages.
There are a few generations of Gorilla Glass. The latest one – 6th can survive 15 consecutive drops from the hight od 1 meter onto rough surfaces. It is even twice as good as the previous version of Corning’s glass (generation 5).
2. Anti-Fingerprints (AF)
The texture of Anti-Fingerprint coating (also called oleophobic coating) is plain so all the contaminations (including grease) can not adhere to the display. You should not notice any marks or smudges on the surface of the display.
What is more, Anti-Fingerprint coating also increases the tolerance to slight mechanical damages like scratches (but it can not be compared with Gorilla Glass – in this scenario, Corning’s glass is more effective than all Anti-Fingerprint coatings).
3. Anti-Reflective (AR)
Anti-Reflective coating reduces reflection. It functions like Anti-Glare (AG) but is more effective. If there are applied various anti-reflective coatings on display, the light reflection factor can be reduced even up to 1:50 (2%).
The most popular combinations of anti-reflective coatings are presented in the table:

4. Anti-Shatter (AS)
Anti-Shatter coating fulfills its function while the display is smashed – it prevents the spreading of glass splinters. The Anti-Shatter coating is available in two hardnesses: 3H or 7H. Its light transmission amounts to around 89% (+/-3%).
5. The Antibacterial Coatings
The touch panels in f.e. ticket machines, parking meters, electronic information systems are used daily by thousands of people, leaving more or less dangerous germs. The producents want to protect the device’s users by applying the antibacterial coatings on the surfaces of displays.
Currently, the most popular are antibacterial coatings with silver particles. Although the mechanism of bactericidal properties of silver has been studied since half of the century, still there is no answer for a simple question: how does it work?
However, there is an alternative for antibacterial coatings with silver particles – a new recipe developed by Kastus. In comparison to other solutions, it is exceptionally durable. In essence, it does not need re-application throughout the lifetime of the device.
Both coatings are incredibly effective – the laboratory analyses confirm that the amount of bacteria on the surface of the touch panel is significantly reduced, at least by 99.9%.
It is worth noticing that you can apply all of the described coatings on a single display, and still, they do not affect the users’ experience.
